I finished my book yesterday (the London Garden Book A-Z) and it’s a mighty strange feeling. Having worked on it for over two years I was keen (increasingly so as successive seasons rolled past) to get the darn thing finished and off to press but as the end drew near, it was disconcerting to find a certain melancholia setting in alongside the euphoria. When you’re writing a book it comes to define you, and once it goes to press, it’s starts a new life without you, like a child that’s left home, and vice-versa. So, feeling rather like an empty-nester I’m embarking on this blog.
Of course I tell myself I’ll have lots more time now to work on the allotment, have a go at dress-making (I rather fancy the look of some of the patterns available at Merchant & Mills), and perfect my sour-dough loaves, as well as being able to visit lots of gardens and museums – heck, I may even attempt a little light housework…
I love your new website Abi, and congratulations on finishing your book! I’m really looking forward to discover some great gardens in London, especially all those hidden roof top ones. Hopefully the book will be out before summer starts!
Abi, well done on finishing the book – the sample pages have whetted my appetite and give a very alternative focus for the non-work aspects of my next trip to London!
Thanks Hugo! The London Garden Book should be out later this summer – watch this website for more details of the wheres and whens. Lots of great things to see in the meantime – if you’re in that part of town, and they don’t have an event on, the Kensington Roof Gardens are great fun.
